:: Education For Peace
Education for Peace is a Global Initiative envisioned by UNESCO to promote a culture of Peace. Thousands of Institutions from various countries have successfully launched this program. In India, NCERT -the apex educational body was entrusted to frame the National Curriculum which enunciates the importance of teacher training for promotion of peace at school level. Global Foundation-the CSR arm of the Global Group has included Education for Pe ace as one of its many initiatives. We believe Education must be able to promote values that foster peace, humaneness and tolerance in a multicultural society. Conducting ‘Antarjyot’ the teacher’s training program and therein establishing harmony clubs for students are some of the activities we undertake. Through this program peace opportunities are maximized as the school atmosphere is imbued with values, skills and attitudes of peace. Antarjyot is a program which helps teachers to be peace builders. Lesson designs in textbooks and tips on meaningful interactions with students are the other distinctive features of this program. Education for Peace is Value education with a difference-it's dynamic, integral and experiential. This is achieved by designing activities in harmony clubs where students are encouraged to sharpen their intellectual, emotional and social skills. These skills are experienced in a personal and social context. 34 schools in Sindhudurg have successfully launched the Antarjyot program and we have undertaken training programs for teachers in a number of schools in Aurangabad and Navi Mumbai too. Another unique attempt was the Green Lane Campaign, the Cyclothon from Kashmir to Kanyakumari by Ashik Jain a young architect who distributed Literature on Education for Peace in more than 50 schools he visited during the journey. The Foundation has also been organizing 'Pedal for Peace' - a cycling event covering the length and breadth of Mumbai to create awareness on our Education for Peace program. The Education for Peace program has a long way to go and can become a national level advocacy initiative if more Schools come forward an d be a part of this peace movement. We hope that through their support we will be able to launch Education for Peace in schools across the country.
